State Termite & Pest Solutions was founded by Claude Selway in 1933 as a family-owned business serving the needs of clients in Stark and Summit Counties. In 1953 the Company was purchased by Herman Flanagan, who operated it from a location on West Tuscarawas Street in Perry Heights, between Canton and Massillon. In that same year, Herman became President of the Ohio Pest Control Association. Herman was very active, attending the annual Pest Control Conference at Purdue University in Indiana every January for many years. In 1966 his son Philip took over the reins of the company and operated it for many years. The Company is currently flourishing under the guidance of the current owners -- Julianne and Robert Geltz. The current president of State Termite & Pest Solutions is Julianne Geltz. She is a graduate of Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. She also graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Her career began in the field of real estate, where she was one of the top real estate agents for the Boebinger Company, the forerunner of Realty One in Stark County. Her tenure at State Termite has spanned three decades. "We went from a one-phone office to a multi-staffed organization servicing several counties," she muses. Her secret for success is service to the customer. "No -- the customer is not always right, but he or she is still the customer, so we turn ourselves inside out to please," she emphasizes. To keep up with the latest research and technologies in pest control, she regularly attends entomology seminars at the University of Kentucky and Purdue University. Julianne is also the current membership chairman of the Ohio Pest Control Association.
